Connections Entertainment is the result of more than 30 years of practical experience, creative thinking and a commitment to delivering events properly. What began behind the DJ booth has developed into a trusted entertainment and event-support business serving clients across the UK.

The 1990s

Where it began

Darren began learning the ropes from his boss, Richard, at just 12. By 16, he was working independently as a mobile DJ, entertaining at a wide variety of parties and celebrations. Those early years taught him to read different audiences, adapt his music and create the right atmosphere for each occasion.

Before moving to Germany in 1997, he also worked as a floor manager at events for radio stations across the UK, alongside mainstream acts. Together, these experiences laid the foundations for his hands-on approach to entertainment and event coordination.

1997 · Germany

Six years in Hamburg

In 1997, Darren moved to Germany for what was initially a one-year DJ contract. He was kept on beyond that first year, spending six years working in Hamburg’s club scene before returning home to the UK. Living in a different culture and learning another language broadened both his outlook and his professional experience.

Experiencing G-Move and Love Parade, alongside opportunities to meet DJs behind the scenes, deepened his appreciation of electronic music and live events. This chapter brought valuable cultural and professional experience, shaping his understanding of different audiences and the atmosphere that makes an event memorable.

2003 · Norfolk

A new chapter in Norfolk

Darren met Nina in 2003 and moved to Norfolk with her and her family, who ran a pub. That same year, he founded Connections Disco, bringing his experience of UK events and Hamburg’s club scene into a business that would grow through recommendations and returning clients.

Their backgrounds brought together entertainment and hospitality. Alongside Darren’s DJ and event experience, Nina developed her expertise as a landlady, venue stylist and wedding and event planner—complementary strengths that continue to shape their personal approach to looking after clients.

2016 · Nationwide

Connections Entertainment

Connections Entertainment launched in 2016, building on the foundations of Connections Disco and bringing a wider range of entertainment and event services together. DJs, live performers, photo experiences, interactive attractions, styling and specialist services became part of one coordinated offering.

Today, the business supports weddings, private celebrations and corporate events across Norfolk, Suffolk, East Anglia, London and nationwide. Its purpose remains personal: to build a brand clients can trust and rely on, with practical advice, clear communication and responsibility for the details from enquiry through to delivery.

Darren

Founder & Operations Director

Darren brings more than 30 years of entertainment experience, including UK radio events, six years in Hamburg’s club scene and DJ performances at prestigious London venues as part of a leading UK agency’s DJ Distinction team. He founded Connections Disco in 2003 and Connections Entertainment in 2016, building on a career spanning performance and event coordination.

Today, he leads event operations, sales and supplier coordination, helping clients choose the right entertainment and bringing the practical details together. His approach combines creative ideas with clear communication, dependable delivery and personal responsibility for the events Connections supports.

Nina

Hospitality, Styling & Event PlanningAffectionately known as “The Boss”.

Nina brings more than 20 years of experience in hospitality, venue styling and wedding and event planning. Her background as a landlady gave her a practical understanding of welcoming guests, managing busy venues and making celebrations run smoothly, with thoughtful service at the heart of every occasion.

Combining that experience with a creative eye, she helps shape the look, feel and flow of an event. From venue styling to planning the details of the day, Nina’s approach is personal and considered, creating celebrations that reflect each client’s ideas and work beautifully for their guests.
